RSV research at UW-Madison could lead to new drugs, vaccines

New images of a respiratory virus that hospitalizes thousands of people in the United States each year could help develop more vaccines and other treatments, according to researchers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Infections of the virus, known as RSV, typically become more common in fall and peak in winter. Infants and older adults are more likely to experience severe illness from RSV and sometimes need to be hospitalized, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports.

Vaccines and antibodies for RSV are currently available for only limited groups, including pregnant people and older adults. Read more…
