New policy requires entry of UW clinical research studies into OnCore

Due to requirements for compliance, data gathering and monitoring, beginning July 1, 2024, all clinical research that is conducted by SMPH faculty or uses UW Health patients or resources is required to be entered into OnCore.

“Our goal as an institution is to consistently drive information through our workflows,” said Betsy Nugent, chief clinical research officer, UW Health, and UW SMPH. “This policy will help improve the quality and efficiency of our studies via more consistent processes and workflows and better data management throughout the lifecycle of a study.”

This policy applies to any study that requires the use of UW Health facilities, staff, equipment, resources, procedures, or patients or occurs in any SMPH space involving human subjects. Study teams may access the OnCore Usage Decision Tree to help determine whether their study qualifies.

The July 1 start date only applies to new studies. Those that are in process and are not already in OnCore are not required to add them retroactively.

Researchers who do not have access to OnCore should visit the OnCore KnowledgeBase (KB) page for access and training information. Questions about OnCore may be directed to the OnCore Support Help Desk Portal.
