23 Aug UW Clinical Research Office to pilot budget template for industry-sponsored clinical trials
The UW Clinical Research Office (CRO) is ready to pilot a budget template in support of a consistent clinical trials budgeting experience for industry sponsors across the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH).
“This is an exciting step for clinical trials process improvement at UW that is the result of a truly collaborative effort across SMPH,” said Betsy Nugent, chief clinical research officer, SMPH and UW Health. “The final product will help build upon our overall commitment to the quality and consistency of clinical trials at UW.”
The effort aims to standardize the research startup and recurring administrative and operational non-procedural research fees for industry-sponsored clinical trials at SMPH and UW Health. This will help ensure that clinical trials are adequately budgeted for and financed by industry sponsors.
The process is being led by a workgroup, assembled in June 2021, which is comprised of research administrative and financial experts across several SMPH departments. The team will pilot the standard budget template and supporting documentation, in collaboration with the following departments: CRO, Department of Medicine, Ophthalmology, Carbone Cancer Center, Surgery, Emergency Medicine, and Pediatrics.
The pilot will begin in late August and will run through March of 2023, with full rollout across SMPH commencing after the initial pilot.
